The beaches

Punta del Riu, l'Arenal, l'Almadrava and El Torn — from fine sand to quiet cove, all a step away.

  • L'Arenal — for lazing about, or for never sitting still
  • Punta del Riu — between the marina and the mouth of the Llastres
  • El Torn — an unspoilt, naturist beach
  • L'Almadrava — the beach of the little white houses
  • Cova del Llop Marí, Cala Justell & Cala Bea — small rocky coves; Cala Bea is ideal for snorkelling

All four of the town's beaches and the marina hold the 2026 Blue Flag.

With a dog: in summer the town has no dog-friendly beach (Blue Flag beaches don't allow pets). Out of season, check the town hall's rules before you go.

The tourism office is literally opposite the house (Cal Forn): horse riding, kayaks, the marina, trails… they'll tell you everything.

What to do in and around town

  • The Gothic hospital — the 14th-century hospital the Infant Pere founded to shelter pilgrims and travellers crossing the Coll de Balaguer — it gives the town its name. A listed national monument (BCIN) with a visitor centre.
  • Jonquet coastal path — an easy Blue Flag trail along the sea from l'Arenal beach to El Torn, ending at the Illot del Torn.
  • Cova del Llop Marí — a sea cave near El Torn, reached by kayak or paddleboard. From 24 June to 31 August you need a free advance booking.
  • Masboquera – Castelló — a moderate, circular inland Blue Flag trail: dry-stone terraces and huts and the Masia de Castelló.
  • Via ferratas — Serres de Mestral (easy, about 5 h) and l'Aigua al Coll (medium-hard, about 3.5 h).

Getting there

  • By train: L'Hospitalet de l'Infant has its own station, with connections to Tarragona and Barcelona (about 2 h).
  • By car: its own AP-7 motorway exit and the N-340; the house is a short walk from the centre.
  • By air: Reus airport is 20–30 minutes away; Barcelona airport about 90 km.

By season

November — March

Truffle season

The cold months are ours. Ten minutes away by road, the Cal Sec estate fills with frosty mornings, dogs and black truffle.

  • The truffle hunt at Cal Sec — Out with the dogs through the holm-oak groves, ending in a tasting. The signature of the house — €35 per person.
  • Serra de Llaberia — Short walks in clean winter air, with views all the way to the sea.
  • Bellmunt del Priorat mines — The Eugenia mine takes you to the centre of the earth: some 14 km of galleries down to 620 m.

April — June

Spring in the Priorat

When the vines green up, the inland is the best plan. The Priorat and Montsant wineries are under an hour away.

  • Priorat & Montsant wineries — Tours and tastings among old carignan and grenache vines — book directly with the winery.
  • Mont-roig and Mas Miró — Joan Miró's museum and house, heritage sites of national interest, and the Mare de Déu de la Roca hermitage.
  • Mountain-bike trails — The Via Verde and the sierra paths start almost at the door; some flat, some demanding.
  • Inland villages — Pratdip, Tivissa and Falset, for days that call for stone, a square and a vermouth.

July — September

Beach summer

Summer is the sea. The beaches of Hospitalet de l'Infant are wide and calm, and the headland coves begin minutes away.

  • Arenal beach & Punta del Riu — Wide sand, blue flags and a seafront promenade you can walk to from the house.
  • Headland coves — Cala de l'Àliga and the rocky inlets towards l'Almadrava, for swimming in clear water.
  • Sunsets on the breakwater — The walk from Carrer Major to Carrer del Mar is short and always ends with a sunset.
  • PortAventura World — 20 km away: PortAventura Park, Caribe Aquatic Park and Ferrari Land, for a day of rides.
  • The Ebro Delta — Catalonia's great wetland: rice paddies, birdlife and the food of Deltebre and Amposta.

October — November

Autumn market

In autumn the nearby villages — Vandellòs, Mont-roig, Montbrió… — fill their markets with the season's produce: new oil, honey and nuts.

  • Mushrooms and chestnuts — The sierra woods take on autumn — short outings to forage for milk-caps.
  • Tarragona, World Heritage city — 30 km away, the city and the Tàrraco archaeological ensemble, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Autumn market — New oil, honey and nuts at the markets of Vandellòs, Mont-roig and Montbrió.
